Why Costa del Sol for a group golf trip

There's a moment on the Costa del Sol, usually around the third day, when the group stops talking about work. The scorecards have become rivalries, someone has a nickname, and dinner by the sea runs late because nobody wants to leave.

With more than seventy courses between Málaga and Sotogrande, this is the most complete golf destination in Spain. We build the trip around a team tournament, pick courses that suit your group's level, and handle everything from the airport to the awards dinner.

On the course

Featured golf courses in Costa del Sol

  • Sotogrande

    Real Club Valderrama

Host of the 1997 Ryder Cup and one of the most famous courses in Europe. Tee times for visitors are limited, so it works best as the final round of the tournament.

  • Benahavís, Marbella

    La Zagaleta

One of the most exclusive private clubs in Europe, in the hills above Marbella. Visitor access is very limited, and we arrange it for our groups through the club.

  • Casares

    Finca Cortesin

Host of the 2023 Solheim Cup, immaculately kept and quiet, with views to the sea and the mountains.

  • San Roque, near Sotogrande

    La Hacienda Links

Links style golf on the hills above Sotogrande, with views to Gibraltar and, on a clear day, the coast of Africa. Next to the Fairmont La Hacienda resort.

  • Elviria, Marbella

    Santa María Golf

A friendly, tree lined course east of Marbella, a good choice for the opening round while the teams find their rhythm.

Course availability for groups changes by season. We confirm every tee time before you book.

When to go

Best time for a golf trip to Costa del Sol

Spring (March to June) and autumn (September to November) give you warm days, firm fairways and long evenings on a terrace.

Winter is mild and popular with groups from the UK and northern Europe. July and August are hot, so we book early tee times and keep the afternoons for the beach.

How long

How long is a typical trip

A typical trip is 4 nights and 3 rounds: arrive, play three days of the tournament, and fly home after the awards.

Groups who want a rest day or a day trip to Ronda usually go for 5 nights.

Beyond the golf

What to do off the course in Costa del Sol

  • Marbella and Puerto Banús

Old town tapas, a beach club afternoon or dinner by the marina.

  • A day in Ronda

The town on the gorge, with wineries in the hills around it.

  • Beachside paella

A long lunch with your feet almost in the sand, the best place to replay the round.

  • Málaga

Tapas bars, the Picasso Museum and rooftop bars over the port.

FAQ

Costa del Sol golf trip questions

More answers on our FAQ page, or see how a Ryder Cup style trip works.

When is the best time for a golf trip to the Costa del Sol?

The best time is from March to June and from September to November, when it's warm but not hot. Winter is also very playable thanks to the mild climate, and in summer we book early tee times.

Can we play Valderrama on a group trip?

Yes, but visitor tee times at Valderrama are limited and must be requested well in advance. We usually plan it as the final round and confirm availability before you book.

Which airport should we fly into?

Málaga Airport (AGP) is the main gateway, with direct flights from most UK and northern European cities. For trips based in Sotogrande, Gibraltar is a closer alternative.

How many players do we need for a tournament?

We design tournaments for groups of 8 or more players. Most Costa del Sol groups are between 8 and 20 players, playing in fourballs.

Is the Costa del Sol good for mixed handicaps?

Yes, it's one of the best regions in Spain for mixed groups. We balance championship courses with more forgiving layouts, and team formats keep everyone in the competition.
